The list below was made by a very special friend of
mine (and we have the same name! but different in spelling though). She
actually wrote it (literally) on a piece of blue paper (yellow paper but blue?
Dunno how to call it, really) and every letters, every word warmed my heart.
Why? It was because of her ‘effort’ and the way she chose her words like she was
actually talking to me or rather making a letter for me. She really wrote it by
her hands (not type written obviously) and she did that just because I asked
for her suggestions of good books (with genres that I love). And she really
nailed it because she knew who I am and what books I’ll really like.
I actually want this to be private but I also love
the idea of sharing this with others who love to read like me. I was torn but
oh well. I did this. I chose this.
P.S. This is my friend’s POV, so to speak. ‘S’
stands for ‘me’.
DISCLAIMER: The photos came from the great
‘Google’ ^_^
NOT PARANORMAL
1. A
Little Something Different by Sandy Hall
·
I recommend this because the writing is
different. And since you write, you should check it out. It’s not that long,
and the story’s really cute. It’s a real treat.
2. Cinder
& Ella by Kelly Oram
·
This is PERFECT. You have to read this.
I know the story’s predictable and cliché, but it is a good ‘feel-good’ story.
3. Girl
Online by Zoe Sugg
·
I recommend this for the sole reason
that the main character is basically you. Well, there are a lot of major
differences, but whatever. You’re a blogger, she’s a blogger! HAHA.
---
S: Seriously, I loved this book! All in
all I loved how I was able to adapt to Penny’s character. Perhaps because I
also love photography and I’m an introvert so, yeah. I loved how interesting
the start of the story was but then I wasn’t that contended with the ending. It just seemed to be lacking of
something, I dunno. But all in all, highly recommended for those people like
me! ^_^
4. Hello,
I Love You by Katie M. Stout
·
This is about a girl who ran off to
Korea to hide from everything. The ending is the best part.
---
S: I haven’t read this yet but my friend (athena_seraphim) already started
doing so and she said it was fun. The last line though is quite intriguing.
Hmm…
5. Prom
and Prejudice by Elizabeth Eulberg
·
This is like contemporary Pride and
Prejudice. Thought you’d want to check it out.
6. The
Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet by Bernie Su & Kate Rodrick
·
If you read this, you also have to watch
the vlog entries. It’s up on YouTube. Just search for the Lizzie Bennet
Diaries. Again, this is a contemporary Pride and Prejudice but it is much, much
more elaborate. It’s really amazing, especially how the authors put everything
into motion. The characters all have social network accounts and all that. And
the actors are just perfect. Anyway, it’s really interesting so you just have to read and watch!!!
PARANORMAL
*** Very strange and
not able to be explained by what scientists know about nature and the world.
Basically outside or beyond what is normal. Based on this definition from
Merriam-Webster Dictionary, I hence forth recommend the following books for you
to read:
1.
Virtue by Amanda
Hocking
·
It is relatively
short, so if you don’t like it then you can be rest assured that you don’t have
to suffer too long. It’s about the war between good and evil (i.e. specifically
the irins and the daemons). So I thought you’d like this because there are
angels (or irins for that matter) involved, on top of a love story.
2.
Unraveling
Isobel by Eileen Cook
·
It’s about a
girl who can see and talk to ghosts. There’s also a love story involving a hot
step brother. That’s why Isobel went unraveled.
3.
The Sword of
Summer by Rick Riordan
·
It’s the first
installment of the Magnus Chase Trilogy, which is about Magnus obviously. Well
he was a son of Frey, a Norse God from the Norse mythology.
--- S: This caught my attention because
of the name “Magnus”. The first thought that came to mind was the ‘Magnus’ of
Mortal Instruments. I wonder if they’re sort of related? Haha)
4.
The Museum of
Intangible Things by Wendy Wunder
·
Well, I just
included this here because there are aliens involved. And a whole lot of
weirdness. That’s paranormal right? WTVR.
5.
The Girl With
All The Gifts by M. R. Carey
·
This is actually
a sci-fi and post-apocalyptic novel (or is it just apocalyptic? I never
understand the difference. I mean, the apocalypse is like doomsday right? So
why is there a “post” like what happens next is better?). But I thought zombies
have no scientific proof, and they’re different from normal people.
6.
Oh. My. Gods. by
Tera Lynn Childs
·
Greek mythology.
A runner. A school for freaks — er, descendants of the gods, rather. Love
story. Step family. Greece.
7.
My Name is
Memory by Ann Brashares
·
Okay. This is
about a soul who remembers all of the memories of his past lives. And he is in
love with this other soul, who is unfortunately not like him who has the
memory. It’s some sort reincarnation, but it’s not the body that recurs, but
the soul. Anyway, I have nothing against the story, in fact, I liked it. But
the writing, ugh. It’s slow-paced, and the ending is kind of abrupt. There are
just so many important things Brashares could’ve talk about but didn’t. Such a
waste if this isn’t just a first installment of some series.
8.
Everyday by
David Levithan
·
Just like “My
Name is Memory”, this is about “A” who is some sort of soul that inhabits a
different body everyday. So unlike Daniel, who is a distinct male, “A” can
inhabit both genders. So it got complicated when he fell in love with this
girl. You read the rest… (I have nothing against Levithan’s writing. In fact, I
regard him as an excellent writer like John Green.)
--- S: I totally agree! David Levithan has this way
of choosing words that’ll really leave something in your mind for you to ponder
and in your heart for you to really feel.
I’ve already read this book and it was really an amazing experience! I almost
went berserk when I heard of the news about the book two only to feel such
disappointment when I discover that it’s just a re-telling of Everyday but using the girl’s POV. I really like to
know the enigma about this soul named A. I loved the character of “A” but not
really of the ‘girl’ A loved… loves. For me, A deserved someone better, someone
who’ll accept the reality of his destiny. But oh well…
OTHER BOOKS
9.
The Caster
Chronicles by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl
-
Beautiful
Creatures
-
Beautiful
Darkness
-
Beautiful Chaos
-
Beautiful
Redemption
·
It’s a great
love story. I loved it, even *insert name of
boyfie here* loved it. However, many things it’s blah, so you have to
read it.
--- S: This is the very reason why I
want to read the book first before watching the movie adaptation because when I
became disappointed with the latter, I already won’t be having the courage or
the will to actually read the book. I don’t know why but this is me. And I
didn’t like its movie.
10. Darkest Powers by Kelly Armstrong
-
The Summoning
-
The Awakening
-
The Reckoning
·
The main
character is a necromancer, and she falls for a werewolf. There’s also a
poltergeist involved (in the story).
--- S: I already have this series in my
library. All I need to do is to finish the series I’m currently obsessing
about. =)
11. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer Trilogy by Michelle
Hodkin
-
The Unbecoming
of Mara Dyer
-
The Evolution of
Mara Dyer
-
The Retribution
of Mara Dyer
·
One word: DARK
(let me add: VERY DARK).
--- S: NOAH!!! Gosh, the first book
really got me giddy and gooey and butterflies invaded my stomach! This Noah is
soooo much like the Noah of Queen J’s “Worthless” though this Noah I’m talking
about is not part of a band but STILL! This is a must read! I’m already done
with the first two books. The third one, well… I still don’t have the courage
to read it ‘cause of the ending of book two. ‘Till now, I’m still recovering
from the shock of it all, haha. My friend’s description about the book is
really true; it almost sums up the summary of this series. =)
12. The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel by
Michael Scott
-
The Alchemist
-
The Magician
-
The Necromancer
-
The Warlock
-
The Enchantress
·
This series is
AMAZING. I don’t know why it never went boom like the Harry Potter did, or
Percy Jackson, which is not even close to its fame. If you’re into legend, and
myths, and history, then you’ll like this too. I know this is a bit long, but I
know this is no love story involved, what makes this series interesting (at
least for me) are the characters, the plot, and of course the twist.
--- S: I already know that this book has no
“romance” in it so I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t touch my heart that deep. Yes, I
do like the adventure, fantasy and mystery/thriller stuff but the romance genre
is what making the reading experience a much more colorful and exciting one (at
least for me) soooo, yeah.
Because I’m morbid, I
recommend:
13. We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
14. Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
15. The Last Time We Said Goodbye by Cynthia Hand
16. My Heart and Other Black Holes by Jasmine Warga
17. I Was Here by Gayle Forman
SOON, I’ll post my
personal book recommendations for you guys and I’m telling you right now that there’ll
be TONS! ^_^v
